Title: Research Librarian/Archivist
Internship
Description:
The research librarian/archivist position will assist
in managing the museums small research library
and archives, which consists of books, journals, videotapes,
clippings, and archival materials. The intern will also
evaluate the current cataloguing system and recommend
and implement improvements to better serve the needs
of the staff and researchers. Intern must be self-motivated
with enough education and/or experience to work independently
with minimal supervision.
Background:
The Cartoon Art Museum is dedicated to the collection,
preservation, study, and exhibition of original cartoon
art, and therefore encourages the appreciation of this
original art form for its artistic, cultural, and historic
merits.
Responsibilities:
* catalog newly acquired books, journals, archive materials
and documents
* develop policies and procedures for processing, preserving
and accessing the research library and archives materials
* create finding aids
* maintain/update database
* answer research questions
* maintain clipping filesRequirements:
* Student or graduate of a library/information services
program and/or previous experience working in an archive
or library setting
* Must be able to prioritize, stay organized while multi-tasking
and enjoy detail-oriented work
* Excellent written communication skills
* Independent thinking and problem-solving
* Knowledge of FileMaker and MSOffice helpful
* Ability to commit at least 8-20 hours a week for 3
months minimum.

Internship
Title: Public Programs Intern
Internship
Description: Intern will assist in the development,
implementation and management of dynamic education programs
for a diverse audience through various interpretative
approaches to the museum's collection and exhibitions.
The intern will work closely with the curator and assistant
curator to develop educational programs. The interns
main focus will be programming for the upcoming summer
and fall exhibitions.
Background:
The Cartoon Art Museum is dedicated to the collection,
preservation, study, and exhibition of original cartoon
art, and therefore encourages the appreciation of this
original art form for its artistic, cultural, and historic
merits.
Responsibilities:
· Write texts for program as needed;
· Assist in developing family guides, tours,
lectures and workshops for upcoming
exhibitions;
· Assist in creating evaluation tools for temporary
as well as permanent
exhibitions;
· Research possibilities for the future growth
of the education department.
Requirements:
· Museum studies student preferred.
· Excellent oral and written communication skills
· Attention to detail, ability to meet tight
deadlines;
· Independent thinking and problem solving, while
being a hands-on team player;
· Research skills;
· Knowledge of File Maker and MSOffice helpful;
· Ability to commit at least 20 hours a week
for 3 months minimum.

Internship
Title: Development Intern
The Cartoon Art Museum is providing an opportunity for
an internship in the development department. During
the course of the internship, the individual will be
exposed to all areas of development, with a particular
emphasis on:
1) Grant Research
2) Cultivation Event Planning
3) Membership
In addition to performing general development related
tasks such as data entry and file organization, the
incumbent will provide concrete support in the production
of grant proposals, fund solicitation and organizational
structuring. The goal is for the intern to depart with
an addition to their professional portfolio and gain
understanding into the organizational importance of
development to the museum institution as a whole. We
encourage project ownership and facilitation. We request
that the individual have some experience with databases
(specifically Filemaker Pro) and be reliable with good
organizational skills. The dates and times are flexible,
but will occur during regular business hours during
the week. The intern will report to the Director of
Development. This is an unpaid position, however the
intern will be invited to attend all special events,
including opening receptions, fundraisers and special
programs.
