...The Cartoon Art Museum
reopened at 655 Mission Street, between 3rd and New
Montgomery Streets, on Saturday December 1, 2001.
...The
new museum space was previously occupied by the Friends
of Photography, The Ansel Adams Center, which recently
announced that it will close.
..."Like everyone
in the arts community in San Francisco we are extremely
sorry to see the Friends of Photography leave,"
said Rod Gilchrist, Executive Director of the Cartoon
Art Museum. "The Ansel Adams Center was a wonderful
resource for the Bay Area, and we had many friends
on their staff and Board. No one knows better than
we do how hard they worked to continue their mission
in the Bay Area.
..."We
are grateful to their board for making it possible
for us to reopen in this beautiful new space,"
Gilchrist added. "Their action ensures that this
location will continue to serve our community as a
non-profit arts space, for the benefit of audiences
from around the world."
...The
Cartoon Art Museum has been looking for a new location
since it closed its space at 814 Mission Street at
the end of April 2001. The Museums trustees are very
happy to be able to stay in the Yerba Buena Gardens
neighborhood of SOMA.
...The
new site is much more visible and accessible than
the previous Cartoon Art Museum site which had been
on the second floor. The move will provide the museum
with increased exhibition space and an expanded bookstore.
Future plans call for the creation of a mini-theater
for screening animated films and video, and a new
permanent exhibition that will explore the history,
variety, and contribution of cartoon art.
...The
Cartoon Art Museum was founded in 1984 for the purpose
of preserving, collecting and studying cartoon and
animation arts in all their forms. For more information

Us.
