Emerging Artist Showcase: Kim Dwinell’s Surfside Girls
July 1 - November 10, 2019
The Cartoon Art Museum is proud to present a selection of artwork from Kim Dwinell's middle-grade graphic novel series Surfside Girls, including her latest volume, Surfside Girls: The Mystery at the Old Rancho.
When one of the ghosts from Danger Point gets…spooked, it’s time for Sam and Jade to bring out the Journal of Weird and leap into action! Trying to solve this two-hundred-year-old mystery takes the girls all over their town and beyond, all while Surfside’s Annual Surf Competition is going on. Add to the mix a cute surfer boy, a mysterious mustached man with a guitar, and a very jealous Sam—can the surfing sleuths save the day again?
About Kim Dwinell
Kim Dwinell is the author and illustrator of the Surfside Girls middle-grade graphic novel series (Top Shelf/ IDW.) Part mermaid, she spent much of high school and college in the ocean, both as a surfer and as a beach lifeguard. She then had a career in animation, on the films Hercules, Mulan, Tarzan and more, and now makes “animated films in a book.” Dwinell also teaches Animation at CSU Long Beach. When she's not in the classroom or at her desk, she might be running a 10K or out on the ocean in her boat or on her board, getting one more freckle. She lives on a tree-lined street in sunny Southern California with her husband, son and Springer Spaniel.
