Past Exhibitions

The Cartoon Art Museum celebrates all forms of cartoon art, from the earliest comic strips to the latest digital artists. Throughout its history, the museum has hosted exhibitions for acclaimed established artists and emerging talents alike, from local San Francisco Bay Area creators to international superstars.

For information about arranging an exhibition, please contact gallery@cartoonart.org or office@cartoonart.org.

Small Press Spotlights

San Francisco has been a hotbed of innovative, groundbreaking comic art since the late 1800s with the advent of the modern comic strip. The Cartoon Art Museum’s Small Press Spotlight—later expanded to our current Emerging Artist Showcase—focused on individual artists creating new and exciting work in the comics field.

Small Press Spotlights

San Francisco has been a hotbed of innovative, groundbreaking comic art since the late 1800s with the advent of the modern comic strip. In the 1960s, the Bay Area gained further notoriety when the underground comix movement launched from San Francisco’s Haight-Ashbury district, and that trend has continued today, as some of the biggest names in alternative and small-press comics hail from the Bay Area. The Cartoon Art Museum’s Small Press Spotlight focuses on the works of these talented individuals.
